Having worked in the art field for 20+ years, I have been lucky enough to have tried nearly all forms of art and craft. It was a trip to the USA in 1990 that first sparked my love of American country folk art.
Inspired by my trip, it wasn’t long before I started cutting and painting my own designs. Friends and family loved my new folk art style and with their encouragement I started my own business in 1992. Initially, I supplied finished product to Decorator and Homeware stores nationally, before trying party plan and markets.
In 2002 we changed our business name to Woodberry Designs and expanded our range to include pattern packets, kits and cutouts. This new business has grown rapidly and in response to our customer’s requests, we are continually adding new designs to the pattern range.
Woodberry Designs is certainly a family concern now. My husband Mark is largely responsible for sales, marketing and the general running around – this includes keeping the household together when I’m hard at it in the studio. Our beautiful daughters, Jessica and Aimee, now aged 10 and 7, have grown up, in and around the studio – this is definitely one of the advantages of working from a home based studio. They are both artistic and enjoy helping mum with her work. And finally, a big thank you to our extended family for their continued and enthusiastic support.
I currently advertise and supply free projects in the following magazines:
- Australian Country Craft magazine;
- Handmade magazine;
- Folk Art and Decorative Painting magazine;
- Country Collections magazine;
- Homespun magazine.
I’m also very excited about renovations to our studio to facilitate Decorative Painting classes in 2005.
